For those wanting to continue with swimming, progression is into Stage 8 Competitive Swimming where children will attend three, 1 hour sessions per week. Emphasis is on technique and skill development. Swimmers can then progress through the stage based on their swimming ability working towards the outcomes of stage 8.
This can lead in progression into the swim training scheme but is not guaranteed.
To identify swimmers for the swim training scheme senior coaching staff visit each Stage 8 group to assess the swimmers. Coaching staff identify those swimmers who have proficient technique for the second stage of the progression process.
Swimmers will then undertake a trial to become a member of the swim training scheme. If successful a place is offered within a development squad of the swim training scheme.
Throughout the scheme swimmers can progress from county, regional, national and international standard.
For those children not successful for progression into the swim training scheme there are many local swimming clubs available.
