Gardening Girls's story

Gardening
Leeds Girls can were invited to help the East SILC John Jamieson School to get their outdoor space back into shape. The East SILC is a special school near Oakwood that supports children and young people aged 3 to 19 years. They know the benefits of outdoor learning and require welcoming spaces that provide sensory opportunities for their learners with complex needs.
Women from across the city, along with graduates from the Couch to 5k programmes, we met at Potternewton Park at 6pm on Monday 2nd July. Completing a short walk, jog or run to the school we completed gardening/outdoor jobs for approximately 45 minutes. Following this we had refreshments made by the students and then complete the short run back to the park. We hope this is the first of many LGC missions to help communities across Leeds. This task is being led by Sole Sisters North Leeds which is a new ladies only running group based at Potternewton park. This group has grown from graduates of the LGC Couch to 5k programme who are keen to keep running in a friendly and inclusive environment. The group meets every Monday at 6pm with a qualified run leader. In addition to this some ladies meet for a social run on Thursdays at 6pm. If you are interested in joining the group please look for 'Sole Sisters North Leeds' or contact eleanorcolman@hotmail.co.uk
