Aireborough Development Works August 2024
Aireborough Leisure Centre will be officially starting the essential maintenance and refurbishment works Monday 19th August with these works expected to be completed in December. During this period sections of the facility will be closed or have limited access however we will communicate this to our customers with prior notice of any service disruption. The program of works consists of essential maintenance to the roof, essential upgrading & maintenance to the squash courts, removal of the climbing wall, creation of a new fitness studio and expansion of the existing gym.
The squash courts will be closed for the full period of works with a plan to reopen November time. The development of the facility will provide two fully refurbished glass backed courts.
Alongside the maintenance works, we are also installing a new energy efficient LED lighting system. This work will allow Leeds City Council to achieve its long-term plans for Aireborough Leisure Centre and reduce its carbon footprint. The works will provide a cleaner Leisure Centre for future generations through sustainable clean energy.
Through this work, we are providing:
• Larger better equipped Gym
• Squash courts to Squash England Standards
• A new Activity Studio
• Improved heating and cooling within these spaces
• Building remedial works including new roof
*Please note all dates are subject to the contractors’ completing works on time.
Improved Gym Facilities
What is involved
The Gym will be extended into the current Activity space, and the whole gym will be reconfigured with an improved range of equipment, to include an extended free weights section and an open functional training space.
We will improve energy efficiency by renewing the roof coverings, making the roofs Solar ready and improving the thermal performance of the roof and external walls. We will also install energy efficient lighting, heating and cooling.
We will fit out the reconfigured internal spaces in sequence to ensure facilities remain open as much as possible.
Two squash courts are upgraded to Squash England standards with better lighting glass backs and full width viewing gallery.
A larger multipurpose studio will replace the currently underused climbing room and two of the squash courts.
