POSITIVE FUTURES

About Us:
The positive futures programme addresses anti-social behaviour and youth crime, and contributes directly to making Leeds a safer place by:

• Reducing anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Leeds.
• Supporting local communities to tackle anti-social behaviour through engagement and diversionary activities.
• Addressing the risk factors and strengthening the protective factors to enable young people to choose leadership and positive community action instead of crime.
• Reducing crime and, by preventing re-offending, decreasing demand for front-line criminal justice services for young people.
• Make Leeds Young people and community safer and feel safer.
• Engage and empower Leeds young people.

The Positive Futures programme engages children and young people in 1:1 and group activities, including gym, swimming, fitness, boxing, football and other physical activity. The programme also has access to other wrap around services such as substance misuse support and alternative training/education for those children and young people not currently engaged in education, employment or training (NEET- Not in education, Employment and Training).
 

Our Team:

The Positive Futures team are one part of the Active Leeds department. We work closely with a variety of departments, organisations, and services across Leeds, such as Safer Leeds, Barca, the Youth Service, the Youth Offending Service, third sector organisations and Children's Services. We deliver various activities and initiatives across the Leeds especially in the 10% deprived communities with specific focus on early intervention (primary schools, high schools and pupil referral units) and 16 – 25-year-old long term unemployed.

Throughout the programme they will take part in a range of activities delivered by qualified coaches, as well as taking part in Personal, Social, Healthy and Economic Education (PHSE) and Youth Crime Workshops via the Children and Young People Support and Prevention Service and Safer Schools team. We also work with well established Third Sector organisations like St Giles, they ‘use our expertise and lived experience to support people who are not getting the help they need.’

To provide a Mentoring service for children and young people to create a positive relationship on a one to one basic or groups work to advice, assist, support and motivate young people to develop their soft skills and broaden their perspectives.

Mentoring programme aim to:

• Create friendship and trust.
• Create achievable and sustainable personla goals.
• Attend regular support and supervision sessions.
• All sessions are strictly confidential.

The Leeds Healthy Holidays programme aims to tackle the food insecurity and hunger, isolation and inactivity experienced by many children in areas across Leeds.

Healthy Holidays provides a range of enrichment activities, including arts & crafts, sports & games, gardening & harvesting, outdoor crafts, cooking activities, digital creativity.
