Bump and Baby Fit - Free Yoga and Swimming for Pregnant People and New Parents

Thanks to funding from the Leeds City Council(Public Health), we’re able to offer all sessions and resources completely free to eligible participants.

The programme is delivered by Active Leeds, in collaboration with Leeds Maternity Care and the University of Leeds.

Note on language: The terms women and mothers are used to reflect the nature of the sessions. We understand that families are diverse, and language can be adapted based on individual preferences.

What people say

“There’s no judgement… it’s just so diverse, seeing different body types and ethnicities.”

“It really helped me gain confidence and feel better about my changing body.”

“For a long time, the yoga class was the only hour each week I did something for myself… it has been integral to supporting my mental health postpartum.”

“Other classes I’ve been to… they’re a bit more pretentious… but these were more diverse, which was nice.”

“I want to be active with my baby once he's here because I didn’t really leave the house with my first one.”

“The class teachers are amazing and really understand the challenges of pregnancy and post-partum. Their support has enabled me to attend an exercise class with my baby, which I wouldn't have been able to do.” “I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and would not have managed without it.”

Why physical activity matters in pregnancy and postpartum

Being active during pregnancy and after birth is safe and beneficial for most people. It can:

  • Improve mood and energy
  • Support physical recovery
  • Reduce the risk of complications
  • Help you feel more confident and connected

If you’re new to physical activity, start gently and listen to your body. If you’ve had a C-section or health concerns, check with your midwife or GP before starting.
